The Channel island of Guernsey is a British Crown Dependency, situated just off the French Normandy coast. The capital city is St Peter Port, situated on the east coast, which is where all the ferries come in from France, the UK, and other smaller islands.
Guernsey has a population of around 65,000 people in an area of around 30 square miles (80 square kilometres), most of whom speak English, but also French, both of which are recognised as official languages on the island.
Guernsey is in the same time zone as the UK (GMT) and uses the Pound Sterling as its currency.
It has a temperate climate with mild winters, averaging about 6°C and cool summers, averaging around 20°C
